Notes: A superb gau amulet decorated with lotus and dorje patterns.

Gau are considered miniature shrines and to Tibetans, they are most important in terms of decoration and meaning. The shrine, typically, takes the form of a tiny box in which sutras, sariras (ashes of a guru or accomplished lama), or fragments of ambrosia and/or ritualistic robes can be placed within it.
